Jesus- Centered
Our other values flow from our deep commitment to love Jesus and follow His way. He is our Alpha and our Omega - our beginning and our end - and he is summoning all humans to die to themselves, be transformed into his likeness, and dwell in his presence. All things have been lovingly created through him and for him. The effects of dwelling in his presence are more love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control, and generosity. His death and resurrection launched a new creation and a new way to be human, defined by love and abundance.
Research-based
Jesus asked us to love God with our mind (Mk 12:30). Therefore, value peer-reviewed science about human flourishing - the sociology, psychology, biology, and neuroscience of spirituality. We bring our best critical thinking as an act of worship, an essential to learning the way of Jesus. You can find resources on the neuroscience of spirituality here.
TrAUma-Informed
All humans are undergoing an inner, spiritual formation of one kind or another (Rom12-1-2). We desire to be formed into the shape of Jesus. That spiritual formation journey is moving away from woundedness and into wholeness. Jesus has made it possible for all to walk that journey. We seek to understand and heal the pain behind our behavior.
Diverse
Jesus' Kingdom is diverse, and we are called to embody that diversity, deeply seeing and understanding one another. Further, God seeks to dwell in diverse places where people are loving one another across cultural boundaries. We are inspired by Ephesians 2:21-22 - In Jesus the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
Affirming and Inclusive
We are called to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God (Micah 6:8). We are, in the end, a Jesus people guided by the bible. Christian teachings that condemn same-sex relationships have been spiritually fruitless at best, and harmful at worst. The arc of scripture bends towards inclusion, not exclusion. Therefore, we stand in solidarity and affirmation with our gay and queer siblings.
